One of the stupidest things...

Well, this past Saturday (yes, I know it's Wednesday - it's been a hectic week!) I did one of the stupidest things I've ever done.

We're decorating the living room in our new place quite a bit differently from the traditional look we had before. We have mostly tan and black (as before), with some lime green accents! We decided to paint a hand-me-down end table this bright green color. Joe did almost all of the sanding, so I was working on the painting while he played disc golf with an old coworker. I was just about finished with my first coat of green. I thought that maybe I would add just a little more on the underside, even though you can't really see that part. I was sitting on the ground and leaned over to see where I was painting. After a few well-placed brush strokes, I decided I was done. As I lifted my head it felt heavy, and then I was suddenly hit in the face with a wet, green blob. That green blob was my ponytail which I had apparently dipped (entirely) in the can of paint. It was dripping all over, so I quickly squeezed it out (onto my leg - I can't say I was thinking that clearly). I ran to the back door, realized both hands were covered in paint (from squeezing out the ponytail), ran back to the dropcloth, wiped off my hands, held my ponytail still with one hand, opened the door with the other, ran to the bathroom and stuck my head in the tub. I put my head under the water and watch green swirl down the drain for several minutes.

That's really all the funny part of the story, but I'll tell the rest anyway. When the water turned clear again, I turned off the water and squeezed out my hair. I got up and looked in the mirror, and there was still a significant amount of green in my hair. I thought "Joe's never going to believe this" so I took a picture in the mirror of my hair. After that, I spent a good deal of time standing in the shower, trying different shampoos (maybe this type strips your hair more and would take off the paint) and conditioners (maybe if it is slick enough, the paint will just slide off). Most of the paint came off then, but I still have (5 days later) bright green highlights.

Fun at Work, Part 2: Irony

There is a funny video that a co-worker discovered a music video to the song "My Cubicle" (a parody of "You're Beautiful"). I suggest watching it right now, otherwise you'll surf away from this post thinking "Wow, that was a waste of space" and actually be more right today than every other day you've thought that. I'm going to try puting it here... if that doesn't work, click on the title to open the link.

Okay, now that you've seen it and laughed, a true story I'll call "Irony: Case in Point." The coworker who shared this video with me had to leave, but insisted I share it with another coworker we feel is notorious for finding ways to put off or avoid work, from hereforth referred to as "June Bug" to protect his identity. Later that afternoon, I went to June Bug's office to get him to come watch the video. What did I find? June Bug with his tall chair back to the door and a scientific journal resting in his lap. June Bug was sound asleep. Too ironic.

Fun at Work, Part 1

I have a feeling there will be a few of these, so I'm calling this part one.

I'll start with some phrases I hear or say at work that are probably not all that common in the average workplace:

1. What type of drugs should I use today?

2. Do you have a brain for me? (When asked this, I completely ignored the individual. My boss had to ask, "Are you going to answer him?" before I realized he was talking to me... I guess I'm in denial.)

3. I need more TTX. (Tetrodotoxin)

4. I hate this cell. (as in a neuron - not a cubicle)

5. It's time for him to take the bodies down - they're sticking together.

Resolve and a dream

Okay, first the resolve... I was frustrated with blogger because it wasn't publishing pictures for me. I've found another outlet on the website for things I want pictures in, so I'm now officially over it. (You can check out the surprise section of my website to see some pictures I wanted to include as blog posts.) So, I'm going to see how it goes to try to post something more frequently for a little while. Yes, this means the posts won't be that meaningful, but that's the price I'm willing to pay.

Okay, for the dream... As I was falling asleep last night I started to dream. There was a very cute sheep standing by itself. It was very sad and said "I've lost my pig." It was so sad that it made me want to cry and woke me up. What a strange little dream!
